Message you can 20psi in the manifold (boost controller reference boost), but the turbo is seeing 40psi of pressure/back pressure due to the intercooler.

Think of an intercooler as an airfilter (resistance). The less filtering, the more flow/power. The more filtering, the less flow/power. I believe that FMICs are like foam air filters. You get good cooling properties, at the cost of velocity and pressure. You cannot have 100% of all three.

you can have;
100% flow/pressure, 0% cooling
or
0% flow/pressure, 100% cooling.

I think with FMICs, you are getting closer to 30% flow/pressure, 70% cooling.
It's all about trade offs. For some, it's all about looks.
